Simple Crock Pot Bone Broth

I like my bone broth really simple, delicious, and nourishing. I don't throw a ton of vegetables into the pot because it can overpower the flavor. I also like to use dark meat chicken when I make my broth because it's more cost effective and it gives it a richer flavor. 

This broth is a wonderful way to heal your gut, ease any illness, and add really dense nutrition to your day. Enjoy a warm cup, take deep breaths, and appreciate the healing magic you are giving to your body.

Cooking Time

2 packages organic chicken drumsticks or one whole  organic chicken

1 large onion, quartered

3-4 stocks of celery, rough chop

4-5 gloves of garlic

2-3 TBS marine collagen peptides (optional)

2 tsp quality mineral salt

1/2- 1 tsp fresh ground pepper

3 quarts filtered water 


Place the chicken on the bottom of your crock pot. Toss the onion, celery, and garlic on top of the chicken. Sprinkle the salt and pepper in the pot. Pour the filtered water over everything. Turn the crock pot on high and cook for 5-6 hours (or on low for 8-10 hours).  After the stock is finished cooking, carefully pull some of the veggies out and then strain the liquid through a colander. Discard the veggies. Add the collagen peptides, if using, to the broth while it is still hot so it dissolves. Peel off the chicken and save it for the rest of the week if desired. Store the broth in glass jars in the refrigerator. The broth should last one week in the fridge. Mine is usually gone in 6 days because I love having a big mug of it in the morning! Enjoy!!


Don't think you will finish off the whole pot in a week? No worries, just store it in freezer safe containers and store for up to a month in the freezer!
